Several ORR Athletes took their racing off-road at the Magnolia Hill XTerra Triathlon in Navasota, Texas. This 800 meter swim, 13 mile off-road bike and 4 mile run was tough due to the heat and sandy course. Coach Nathan Winkelman finished third overall and Mikey Benes finished fifth. Jess Clark finished third in her age group. Jesse Robinson, Mike Young, Raul Luzardo, and Kevin Barr all had great races as well. This was the first XTerra race for Jess, Mike, and Jesse. Congrats ORR! Here are some photos from the day (taken by Rhonda Orr):
James Engle has been a cyclist on the ORR Team since Fall of 2009. After IMTX, he got a bit of the triathlete bug and started running and swimming more. He ran his first 10K this past weekend with his son in a speedy 53 minutes flat. That’s around 8:32 min/mile pace! James then hopped on a plane to Cairo, where he and his family will be residing for the next year. James has already joined the Cairo Cycling Club and is looking for cycling and triathlon races in that part of the world. Congrats James!! The ORR Team is going to miss you when you’re oversees!
Congrats to several ORR athletes who raced the Clear Lake International (Olympic) and Sprint Triathlons this last weekend. The Olympic race was reportedly a little long on both the bike and run splits and was obviously extremely hot!
Bradley Pigage finished third overall in the elite wave among some tough competition. He swam 22:55 for 1.5K, biked 24.8 mph for the long bike, and ran 6:31 min/mile pace. Overall time was 2:12:30.
Matt Horak swam 37:07, biked 1:26, and ran 12:35 min/mile pace. 3:25:51 overall finishing time.
Allison Eden finished second in the Sprint distance 15-19AG. She swam 12:09, biked 17.2 mph, and ran 8: 36 min/mile pace. Allison had the fastest bike split in her AG!
Brandon Pounds won the competitive 25-29AG in the Sprint distance triathlon. Unfortunately he lost his chip in the swim, so there are no splits for him. He must have been speedy though since he finished in 1:06:14, winning his AG by almost 4 minutes!
Shannon Butkus also had a great Sprint race finishing in 8th in her AG with a time of 1:27:36. She swam 13:58, biked almost 17 mph and ran 10:23 min/mile pace.
Way to go Team!
OutRival Racing athlete, Caitlin Peplinski, had a great showing at her first marathon. Running 26.2 on a very hilly point to point race through paved country trails, she finished in just over five hours. After pushing her limits at the Eisenbahn Marathon in Wisconsin, she is hooked and ready to sign up for another full. Congrats Catilin!

Yazmin Caram raced the “Uno & Por Los Demas” 11k race in Mexico City during the Weekend. This was Yazmin’s 1st race longer than 5K. She did great finishing in 1 hour and 11 minutes. Yazmin has now decided she is ready to venture into longer distances and has put down a Half Marathon on her schedule!
The River Cities Triathlon in Shreveport, Louisiana is known for it’s high level of competition as well as it’s “swag”! This years 500m swim, 18-mile bike, and 3-mile run was (as usual) very darn hot! Six OutRival Racing athletes competed at this awesome race. Here are their results:
