James Engle and Berk Clare started out the cycling season with some strong racing at the Tour de New Braunfels last weekend! They both raced the 40-minute Circuit Race on Saturday and finished with the pack. On Sunday, they both raced the 48-mile Cat 4/5 Road Race along with several other cyclists from The Woodlands Cycling Club Race Team. Despite some mishaps with the team (including a dereilleur getting taken off and John Scott Wilmeth switching bikes with another teammate), James Engle was able to hang with the main pack and duke it out for the sprint finish. James finished 9th overall out of 60+ cyclists. Berk and several of the other WCCRT guys were able to bridge back up to the field for a pack finish. Next up for both James and Berk is Walburg this weekend. Way to race guys!
Photos coming soon!

The REMISSION RUN began as a way to celebrate non-Hodgkin lymphoma survivor Bill Crews’ 5 year anniversary of remission. He discovered he was in remission at the end of January 2004, but because his disease is currently “incurable” he had to continue more than two years of treatments. Following those treatments, Bill returns regularly to MD Anderson Cancer Center for check ups with his lymphoma doctor, Rick Hagemeister. Bill is a marathoner and triathlete. He is a USAT certified coach and Ironman finisher as well. He credits the strength of his faith, his family and his doctor with his survival.
100% of the proceeds of The Bill Crews Remission Run are donated to the Hagemeister Research Fund. Through this fund, the lymphoma tissue bank was established to provide tumor data to researchers at MD Anderson and outside institutions as well. Researchers use this data to develop better therapies which will lead to the cure for blood cancers and other malignancies. Your participation in this race is a way for you to use your healthy body to aid the cause of eliminating cancer.
Over 300 runners came out for the third Annual Remission Run. OutRival Racing athletes Blake Henning, Curtis Hooper and George Roffe raced the Remission Run this last weekend. All three of these athletes are preparing for Ironman Texas and used this 5K as a training race.
Curtis ran a super speedy 19:08 to finish 1st place in the 40-44 age group and 6th overall while George had a very solid performance to place 6th in the 45-49 age group in 27:46. Blake ran the 5K in 22:47, or 7:20 min/mile average. Blake finished on the podium with a 3rd place finish in the 50-54 Age Group. Congratulations! |

The Houston Area Road Runners Association (HARRA) awards The Roger Boak Award to the runner who runs the most races in a calendar year. Blake Henning was the honored recipient of the Roger Boak Award for 2010. Last year, Blake competed in:
- The Chevron Houston Marathon
- The Bayou City Classic 10K
- The Koala Luke’s Locker Half Marathon
- The HMSA Classical 25K
- The Sugar Land Lakes of William Ranch 30K
Not only did Blake run often, he ran fast! Blake set some PRs last year in these races as well. Blake also ran the Houston Marathon last weekend and plans on racing Ironman Texas in May.
Congrats Blake! Keep on running (well, and biking and swimming!)
