Michelle discovered triathlon in 2004 after walking into a run shop to buy a pair of shoes and seeing a flyer for a local sprint distance race. She was a competitive gymnast growing up and was on the high school dive team, but reportedly had no other real athletic background. Michelle thought the race sounded like a fun challenge and might serve as a motivational boost for my then slacking workout regimen. Michelle back stroked most of that 500 meter swim and rode the 10 mile bike course on a cheap, heavy mountain bike, but she was instantly hooked!
Soon after that race, she discovered she was pregnant and before her daughter was even 9 months old, Michelle learned that daughter number two was on the way. She had to put her new found love of the sport on hold for a little while, but in 2007, as triathlon season rolled around again, she decided it was time for her to give the sport another go. Michelle has raced every season since! She loves how triathlon training keeps her in peak physical condition so that she can effectively perform her job as a Houston Fire Fighter and participate in all of the other strenuous physical activities she enjoys. Michelle loves introducing people to the sport and encouraging them along their fitness journeys. She hopes to one day become a coach!
